The 2024 Grammy nominees – A look into the past

It’s Grammy season!

To celebrate the Grammys with you, we’ve marked down many Grammy winners and nominated albums from recent years for you in our store!

The 66th Grammy Awards are approaching and, like every year, they bring with them exciting nominations. Here you will find an overview and exciting information about this year’s nominated titles that are available with immersive audio.

February 4 is the day. The five nominees in the “Best Immersive Album” category this year include greats such as Alicia Keys and the God of War Ragnarök soundtrack – but unfortunately they have yet to be released on Blu-ray. The nominees are:

  • Ryan Ulyate – Act 3, mixed by Michael Romanowski and Ryan Ulyate
  • George Strait – Blue Clear Sky, mixed by Michael Romanowski and Chuck Ainlay
  • Alicia Keys – The Diary Of Alicia Keys, mixed by Michael Romanowski, George Massenburg and Eric Schilling
  • Bear McCreary’s God Of War Ragnarök soundtrack, mixed by Michael Romanowski and Eric Schilling
  • Madison Beer – Silence Between Songs, mixed by Sean Brennan, Mike Piacentini and Aaron Short

But there are also some well-known names among the nominees in other categories that should be familiar to connoisseurs of immersive sound:

Morten Lindberg, a frequent guest at the prestigious awards, has once again made it onto the list of nominees, this time in the “Classical Producer of the Year” category. This is Morten Lindberg’s 35th Grammy nomination – an impressive number.

He received most of these nominations in the categories “Best Immersive Album” and “Best Engineered Album”. Until he finally won his well-deserved Grammy for “Best Immersive Album” in 2020 for producing the classic album “Lux”, he was considered the most nominated artist without a win, with a remarkable 28 nominations. This year he is nominated as producer for the following albums:

We are keeping our fingers crossed for him for February 4, where we hope he will win the title of Classical Music Producer of the Year.

John Williams is also a must at every Grammy award ceremony.

He is considered the most successful film composer in the world and has composed soundtracks for over 100 films. Pieces that everyone knows today, such as the moving film music for Star Wars, Harry Potter and Jurassic Park. He has already won a total of 25 Grammys.

This year, too, he could win several Grammys at the upcoming awards ceremony. His soundtracks for “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” and “The Fabelmans” have both been nominated for a Grammy in the category “Best score soundtrack for visual media” and his piece “Helena’s Theme” from the fifth Indiana Jones film is in the running for Best Instrumental Composition.

With these new nominations, John Williams has now collected a whopping 76 Grammy nominations, making him the sixth most nominated artist in the history of the awards.

Of course, John Williams’ music is not only to be enjoyed on the big screen – among other things, he writes impressive concert symphonies, is honorary conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestra and works with top orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic and the Vienna Philharmonic.

But it’s not just in the classical music sector that things are getting hot – the song “Angry” from the Rolling Stones’ latest album “Hackney Diamonds” has been nominated for a Grammy in the best rock song category.

You would think that a band as long-lived and legendary as the Rolling Stones would probably be swimming in Grammys. But things actually looked very different on that front for a long time: The Rolling Stones have only ever been awarded a total of three Grammys. For their album “Voodoo Lounge” as best album, for their music video for “Love is Strong” and an award for their album “Blue & Lonesome” as best traditional blues album.

Seems like the Grammys have got some catching up to do. Because: before 1979, there were no rock categories in the award show, which excluded world-famous Rolling Stones hits like “Paint it Black” and “(I can get no) Satisfaction” from the nominations. In 1986, they received a well-deserved Lifetime Achievement Award from the Academy. And the Rolling Stones’ life’s work is not yet complete – which is why we hope that “Angry” will win the Rock Award and join the long line of successes. Then nobody has to be angry.

Of course, we wish all nominated artists every success and look forward to another great award ceremony full of musical diversity!
