The Baton Rouge Symphony Chamber Players is a collection of talented artists who have emerged from the larger parent group, the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra. The Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra has become an ambassador for the arts in the greater Baton Rouge region and neighbouring communities.

Kurt Weill was born in Dessau, the son of a cantor, and grew up in a family where opera performances played an important role. He received music lessons at an early age and studied briefly with Engelbert Humperdinck. Weill began his career as a conductor and later attended Ferruccio Busoni’s master classes in Berlin. After positive reactions to his collaboration with Georg Kaiser in “The Protagonist” (1926), he worked to make his music accessible.

Jacques Ibert was born in Paris and received early musical training from his pianist mother. Despite his father’s opposition, he pursued his musical passion and won the Prix de Rome in 1919 for his cantata “Le Poete et la Fee”. His most famous composition is the symphonic suite “Ports of Call” from 1924. Ibert composed variously for different genres.

Alban Berg is an important figure in 20th century music composition and part of the Second Viennese School. His works are characterised by a romantic aesthetic and dramatic talent.
