Despite a solid reputation as a live band and two well-received albums, Yes had not yet achieved the commercial breakthrough with a broad audience that other bands of their time had already accomplished.

With the arrival of Steve Howe as guitarist, *The Yes Album* marked a decisive step forward: a clearer vision for what could be achieved in the studio—developed in collaboration with sound engineer and co-producer Eddie Offord—along with song material that conveyed the same energy on record as the band’s live performances, helped Yes achieve a breakthrough with a wider audience in both Europe and the U.S.

First released on February 19, 1971, *The Yes Album* was the band’s third studio album and the first to consist entirely of original compositions. With complex tracks like “Starship Trooper” and “I’ve Seen All Good People,” Jon Anderson, Chris Squire, Tony Kaye, Bill Bruford, and Steve Howe took progressive rock to new heights. The album reached No. 4 on the UK charts and was the first Yes release to make it into the Top 40 in the U.S.—later achieving platinum status.

Previously available only as part of the Super Deluxe Edition, this Blu-ray Audio is now being released as a standalone title. It features Steven Wilson’s 2023 remixes of the album in Dolby Atmos and 5.1 surround sound (DTS-HD MA and LPCM), along with the original stereo album remastered by Bernie Grundman.

Guitarist Steve Howe describes *The Yes Album* as the birth of the signature Yes sound of the 1970s—shaped by the deliberate decision to avoid using cover songs, the consolidation of the band’s musical influences, and the strategic use of the best studio technology available at the time.
