Description

Skylarking: XTC’s most commercially successful album has been shrouded in myth for many years. There are stories about ‘lost’ multitrack recordings (which unfortunately is true of other XTC albums, but not this one), and about a song that was originally left off the album but was later reinserted when it unexpectedly became a hit in the US. On paper, the collaboration between the ideal Britpop band – a decade before the term was even invented – and an Anglophile super-producer seemed like a perfect fit. But personally, they didn’t harmonise, which led to tensions. Nevertheless, a classic album emerged from it. However, a masterpiece remains a masterpiece no matter how traumatic its creation was, and this is one of those rare albums that sounded great even back then and sounds just as great, if not better, now. When Steven Wilson remixed the album in 2016 – for new stereo and 5.1 surround sound editions – the release was again a success with both the original and a new generation of fans. Having been given the opportunity to build on his 2016 work, Steven has now remixed the album for Dolby Atmos. This new edition contains the full album in Dolby Atmos, along with four additional tracks and instrumental versions in this format. The Blu-ray also contains the 2016 mixes in DTS-HD MA 5.1 Surround, 24/96 Hi-Res Stereo and instrumental versions – all mixed by Steven Wilson. The Blu-ray also includes the original album mix produced by Todd Rundgren in 24/96 hi-res stereo (corrected polarity edition). The 2016 stereo mixes are included on the accompanying CD.
