Description

When Alan Parsons released his second album with The Alan Parsons Project in 1977, the name of the sound engineer was already synonymous with sonic perfection: as chief engineer on Pink Floyd’s ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’ and assistant engineer on the Beatles albums ‘Abbey Road’ and ‘Let It Be’, he had made music history. With ‘I Robot’, Parsons and his partner Eric Woolfson created their own masterpiece – a concept album inspired by Isaac Asimov’s visionary science fiction stories that raises questions about artificial intelligence, robotics and the relationship between humans and machines.

Released in 1977, the album reached number 9 in the US charts and achieved platinum status. Its perfect timing was legendary: ‘I Robot’ hit record stores in the same week that ‘Star Wars’ took cinemas by storm – suddenly robots were everywhere. The combination of orchestral arrangements, innovative electronic elements and alternating vocals (including Steve Harley and Allan Clarke from The Hollies) made the album a milestone between progressive rock and pop. Hits such as ‘I Wouldn’t Want to Be Like You’ and ‘Breakdown’ became classics.

This Blu-ray edition presents ‘I Robot’ in a newly remastered form with a particularly detailed, spatial listening experience. The Dolby Atmos mix was created in 2025 by Alan Parsons himself – almost 50 years after the original release, the master returns to his work and opens up new dimensions from the original multi-track master tapes. Voices, instruments and effects are precisely positioned in the three-dimensional sound space. The restored audio tracks preserve the original character of the album while expanding its sonic depth – from the floating synthesizers of the title track to the haunting vocals and complex arrangements created at the legendary Abbey Road Studios.

In addition, the Blu-ray offers visual and documentary content, including an exclusive interview with Eric Woolfson about the album and the restored music video for ‘I Wouldn’t Want to Be Like You,’ which provide fascinating insights into the creation of this groundbreaking album.
