Description
With “Requiem for a Village”, Steven Wilson presents his ninth solo album – a 54-minute sonorous panorama set in a timeless, eerie British village world. The work combines dark folk, rock and electronics into a seamless sound experience, populated by enigmatic figures and a haunting atmosphere. The narration as well as some of the lyrics are by Andy Partridge (XTC); it is spoken by actor David Tennant (Doctor Who), whose voice gives the album a special sonic density.
Wilson deliberately recorded the album with analogue instrumentation: the use of exclusively analogue synthesizers with their natural unpredictability as well as deliberately not perfectly tuned instruments are just as much a part of the sonic concept as the visible signature of the player. At his side are multi-instrumentalist Randy McStine, drummer Russell Holzman and singer Katherine Priddy. The result is an intimate, multi-layered and idiosyncratic work that once again demonstrates Wilson’s ability to combine artistic ambition and atmospheric depth.
The Blu-ray Audio is released with a spatial Dolby Atmos mix based on Dolby TrueHD 7.1 in 24-bit/48kHz, a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 mix and a high-resolution LPCM stereo mix (24-bit/96kHz each) and invites you to an immersive listening experience that fully does justice to the atmospheric depth of the album.
