Inspired by the colors, weightlessness, and the interconnectedness in the limitlessness of the ocean, an idiosyncratic sound arose that materialized as the energetic groundswell in the nine movements of “Tiefenträume.” Two saxophones through to 20 woodwinds, together with instrumentation and mixing in 5.1 surround, create a unique listening experience.

The Steffen Schorn Septet played the composed and improvised sections quasi-”live” in real time. “Tiefenträume” conjures acoustic color fields, from broad, expressive brushstrokes to subtle pointillism, which require a deeper listening in order to tap their full dimensions. Structure, sensuousness, and emotion give way to dynamic acoustic patters where polyrhythm and counterpoint meet. Rock, swing, jazz, intricate meters, and melodics with oriental influences are pillars of a universe that is recreating itself.
