With “Chopin Residue,” Polish composer and visual artist Mariusz Szypura presents a radical reinterpretation of Frédéric Chopin’s musical legacy: The piano, as the central instrument, is deliberately removed, leaving behind what lies beneath—sonic fragments, harmonic residues, and emotional tension. This concept gives rise to a two-part work consisting of “Deconstructions”—rearranged interpretations of Chopin’s compositions—and “Reworks,” which use the deconstructed material as a starting point for entirely new pieces.

Numerous renowned musicians from the rock and experimental scenes are contributing to the project, including Adrian Utley (Portishead), Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth), David Pajo (Slint), Joey Waronker (Atoms For Peace, Beck), Gail Ann Dorsey (David Bowie), John McEntire (Tortoise), John Stanier (Battles), and Jim O’Rourke. Artists such as Matthew Herbert, Christian Fennesz, Masayoshi Fujita, and others are also contributing their own reworkings to the album.

This Blu-ray release presents the entire album in a Dolby Atmos mix (11.1.6) created specifically for multi-channel listening environments, featuring the collaboration of several internationally renowned immersive audio specialists—Morten Lindberg, Michael Romanowski, and Jacek Gawłowski—working alongside Mariusz Szypura himself. Each track also includes specially designed visual material, allowing the sound and visuals to merge into a unified audiovisual experience.
