Description

The King Crimson classic “Red” has been reissued in a comprehensive anniversary edition that sets new standards in sound quality. At the heart of this edition are completely new mixes by sound wizard Steven Wilson. Not only has he remixed the album in stereo and 5.1 surround sound, but he has also brought it into the future with a new Dolby Atmos mix that gives the music a previously unknown sense of space and power.

The reissue also offers a fascinating alternative perspective on the album: the “Elemental Mixes” by longtime producer David Singleton. He used the original multitrack recordings to create a version that separates the instruments more clearly and reveals many previously unheard elements from the original sessions.

The story behind “Red” is as intense as the music itself. When King Crimson entered the studio in July 1974, they had grueling tours and lineup changes behind them – violinist David Cross had recently left the band, reducing it to a trio. From this condensed energy and the experience of the years 1972-74, they created their last studio album of the 1970s. “Red” was largely ignored upon its release, as the band had already broken up, but over the decades it has become one of the most acclaimed and influential albums of its era.
