When Genesis began work on their fifth studio album, *The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway*, in 1974, the band was at a turning point. Following the success of *Selling England by the Pound*, Peter Gabriel, Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford, Steve Hackett, and Phil Collins moved into a secluded estate in Headley, England, to write the most ambitious work of their career to date. Early on, the group decided it would be a double album—with Peter Gabriel providing the story behind it: the tale of Rael, a New York teenager of Puerto Rican descent who embarks on a surreal journey of self-discovery.

The creative process was not without its tensions: For the first time, Gabriel took sole responsibility for writing all the lyrics, while his bandmates composed the music. Personal stresses and the musicians’ differing life paths further exacerbate the tensions. Initially met with mixed reviews upon its release in November 1974, the album is now considered one of the seminal works of British progressive rock from the 1970s. Peter Gabriel completed the album’s tour before leaving the band in May 1975.

This standalone Blu-ray Audio release presents the album in a Dolby Atmos mix newly created in 2025, produced by Bob Mackenzie at Real World Studios and personally supervised by Peter Gabriel and Tony Banks. It is complemented by the 2025 remaster of the original stereo mix in uncompressed 96 kHz/24-bit high-resolution audio. The disc comes in a triple-gatefold design with a 20-page booklet featuring photographs and excerpts from the liner notes, in keeping with the album’s original visual style.
