With Gundula Janowitz, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Edith Mathis and Hermann Prey in the leading roles, this recording joins the ranks of the great recordings of this opera.

The 28-page booklet in German and English contains a synopsis and essays by Alan Blyth, Peter Cossé, Günter Hermanns and Reinhard Lüthje, is richly illustrated and shows for the first time numerous photos taken during the recording sessions in March 1968 at the Jesus Christ Church in Berlin/Dahlem.
