“Ghosts In The Park” is Bruce Soord’s most personal solo album to date—created during extensive tours with The Pineapple Thief, in hotel rooms, unfamiliar cities, and moments of forced solitude. The album’s creation was shaped by the protracted decline and eventual death of his father, as well as the progression of his mother’s Alzheimer’s disease. These experiences form the emotional backbone of the album—not as programmatic themes, but as an underlying mood that runs through the music.

The acoustic guitar takes center stage, often in raw, first-take recordings captured directly in hotel rooms before being carefully combined with studio recordings. This tension between fragility and control shapes the sound. Individual tracks can be traced back to specific locations: “Concepcion” was recorded in Chile, while “Meet Me On The Downs” and the title track were recorded in Hamburg and Oberhausen. The album was recorded almost entirely by Soord himself—only Jon Sykes contributes bass on “Kept Me Thinking.” Steve Kitch handled the mastering.

The Limited Earbook Edition combines four discs in a 48-page hardcover book featuring texts by Soord, previously unpublished photos, and insights into the creative process. CD 1 contains the studio album; CD 2 features piano versions by Gleb Kolyadin (known from iamthemorning) under the title “Shipwrecks In The Harbour,” CD 3 features purely acoustic interpretations by Soord himself. The Blu-ray Audio presents all three versions in Dolby Atmos, 5.1 DTS-HD MA, and high-resolution stereo at 48 kHz/24-bit—formats that do particular justice to the album’s acoustic intimacy.
