Johann Sebastian Bach‘s St John Passion with the Berlin Philharmonic and Sir Simon Rattle was an outstanding event of the 2013/2014 season.

As in the St Matthew Passion before, star director Peter Sellars succeeded in creating a production that intensified the spiritual and dramatic content of the Passion story. The New York Times also praised the “brilliant, yet energetic” playing of the orchestra, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung the “haunting, almost unsurpassable singing of all participants”.

At the head of the prominent ensemble of singers was Mark Padmore, currently probably the most important evangelist interpreter.

The edition is equipped with both a DVD and a Blu-ray version and thus enables playback on all standard video players. In addition, there is an exclusive presentation with a linen cover, extensive booklet and numerous photos. The diverse bonus material includes a conversation with Simon Rattle and Peter Sellars, an introduction to the work by choral director Simon Halsey and a voucher for the Berlin Philharmonic’s Digital Concert Hall.
