Plastic Ono Band was the debut solo album by John Lennon and Yoko Ono in 1970, hailed by many as John‘s best solo work and gaining momentum ever since, having been included in a wide variety of Best Of lists. To mark the 50th anniversary, Plastic Ono Band is being released as the ultimate collector‘s edition, which also includes a fully immersive Dolby Atmos mix. This was mixed at Abbey Road Studios by three-time GRAMMY®-Award winner and top sound engineer Paul Hicks, among others.

Following the breakup of the Beatles in 1970, John and Yoko experienced a period of self-reflection and experimentation, resulting in the most honest and emotionally raw album. Both had begun writing and demos at Abbey Road in the summer of that year, with recording sessions taking place in September/October. With the small core band consisting only of Ringo Starr on drums and his old friend Klaus Voorman on bass, and co-produced by Phil Spector, the album reached #8 in the UK charts and #6 in the US.

This album is released as a Ltd. Super Deluxe Boxset with a total of eight discs: Included is the brand new, remastered stereo mix, unedited studio recordings, outtakes, extras, an audio documentary that illuminates the creation process of individual songs, a 132-page hardcover book, a poster and postcards.

Absolute highlight, however, are the new 5.1 surround sound and Dolby Atmos mixes included on the 2 Blu-rays. For this, the original album was remixed from scratch by Paul Hicks at
Abbey Road Studios under the supervision of Yoko Ono Lennon. Hicks used high-resolution 24-bit-192kHz audio transfers of the original first-generation multitrack recordings to create the best possible recreation of the originals. The result is that these new Ultimate Mixes now reveal whole new levels of sonic depth, definition and clarity, and in the case.
and in the case of Dolby Atmos, a completely immersive spatial listening experience is created that has never been seen before.
