Forty years ago, Marius Müller-Westernhagen recorded “Mit Pfefferminz bin ich dein Prinz”. The album came slowly but powerfully, and in 1978 it established the unique career of Marius Müller-Westernhagen. In the old church at Woodstock, the legendary Dreamland Studio, Marius Müller-Westernhagen and his American companions cooked the pieces down to their essence.
Some of the songs may have only now really found themselves. “Johnny Walker” and “Alles in den Wind” for example, abysmally sad drinking ballads. And “Mit 18” above all, this review of oneself as a young savage. “Dicke” shows up as a happy cleanup crew with overweight clichés. “Pfefferminz” got a robe of rhythm and blues, “Oh Margarethe” is played all laid back and “Zieh dir bloß die Schuhe aus” like in a Latino bar.
