In 2011, 100 members of his own profession voted Carlos Kleiber ‘the greatest conductor of all time,’ but he also remains the personification of the genius recluse – Herbert von Karajan used to joke that Kleiber would only conduct when his fridge was empty. He made few recordings but they are among the greatest treasures of the DG catalogue. Now DG present the total Kleiber experience in glorious studio master quality HD sound on Blu-ray Audio for the first time (except Tristan, presented at 16-bit). The Kleiber characteristics of intellectual rigour, passion and perfectionism apply to all the recordings herein.
Comprises three CDs of orchestral works by Beethoven, Brahms and Schubert and four complete operas: Der Freischütz, Die Fledermaus, La Traviata and Tristan und Isolde; with all repertoire mastered to 24-bit (except Tristan, presented as 16-bit) on one Pure Audio Blu-ray disc.
