Morten Lindberg, immersive sound producer and engineer wins Grammy!

The most nominated artist who had not won a Grammy before has finally done it! Morten Lindberg of Norway, after having 36 Grammy nods without a win, took home the Grammy for Best Immersive Audio Album. 28 of which were in the “best engineered…” categories. The classical producer, engineer and mastering engineer walked away with the award for his work on Anita Brevik, TrondheimSolistene & Nidarosdomens Jentekor´s LUX.

The award was announced at the 62nd Grammy´s at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles. This after being first nominated for a Grammy in 2007 and every year since (except for 2008). He was nominated this year for Producer of the Year/Classical and Best Immersive Audio Album. The classical album LUX was sung by the Nidaros Cathederal Girls’ Choir’s mission and strung by the TrondheimSolistene orchestra. It is available on Hybrid SACD and Pure Audio Blu-ray formats. Of which the latter has Dolby Atmos and Auro-3D sound capabilities (immersive sound).

LUX was released on the 2L record label. Morten Lindberg runs the studio, production and the record label. 2L says that “LUX is the conceptual sequel to MAGNIFICAT [nominated Best Surround Sound Album at the 58th GRAMMY Awards].” Suffice to say Lindberg is a prolific producer and engineer. He has many releases every year. One might also add that he is a leader in the classical music in immersive or surround sphere.

One might consider who his contenders were for this interesting title of most nods without a win. The runners up thus far were the rap/hip hop veteran Snoop Dogg and R&B singer Brian Mcknight. Both of which had 17 Grammy nominations without a win.
