Description

The Juno Award winning album that launched Loreena McKennitt onto the international stage 30 years ago will be re-released on September 24, 2021 as The Visit: The Definitive Edition.

The original album was recorded in 1991 and achieved the sale of over 2 million copies in more than 40 countries and was the turning point in the career of the Canadian singer/songwriter.

The Visit: The Definitive Edition a deluxe limited edition hardcover that includes 4 CDs and an audio Blu-Ray, a 32-page illustrated booklet with unreleased content, such as the first surround mix of their music.

The booklet is a veritable treasure trove of memories: four essays written by Loreena McKennitt, personal recollections of her unconventional rise by Dave Tollington, formerly of Warner Music Canada, and previously unpublished photos. This is a ‘Revisit of The Visit’ – a kaleidoscope of the times and settings of that time.

“Thirty years is a long time, no matter how you measure it,” McKennitt recalls.” Looking at it now as if through a picture frame, you can better see the period in which this all took place. I’ve heard from so many people that this record was the soundtrack of their lives when it was released in the early ’90s.” “In addition, we managed to include, in one way or another, the contributors who were very supportive at the time and also contributed to the album with their creativity like Jeri Heiden with the graphics, Tollington for his words and our original engineer Jeff Wolpert.”

Dave Tollington writes: “My time with Loreena has been a glorious journey through the world of art, geography, but also business at the height of her success and none of us thought this at the beginning or harbored expectations in this form. So much nourishing water that has flowed under the bridge – both personally and professionally.”

In addition to the original remaster recordings, the package includes two archived radio broadcasts from Toronto’s Ontario Place and for NPR’s World Cafe. Likewise, there is a spoken word disc with an interview from 1991 and a roundtable discussion from 2020 with colleagues from the era.

The fourth CD contains the soundboard recordings of six trio performances, a binaural headphone mix of the original recordings. This binaural mix gives the listener a surround experience when using headphones accordingly.

The Blu-ray delivers the original recording in Dolby Atmos and 5.1 surround sound in a high-resolution stereo version. Dolby has developed this new format, Atmos provides the sound that is similar to that in modern cinemas due to the three-dimensional sound quality. The 5.1 mix is in the older, five-speaker subwoofer surround format that most are familiar with. The High-Res Stereo Mix is not compressed and allows the listener to enjoy the original stereo mix, which is very close to the original studio master.

Die Deluxe Limited Edition enthält Highlights aus McKennitts Konzertauftritten wie “Bonny Portmore”, “The Lady of Shalot”, “The Old Ways”, “Greensleeves” und “Tango To Evora” – großartige Songs, die auch schon von anderen Künstlern gecovert wurden.

In the fall of 2019, Loreena McKennitt decided to take some time off for now to take care of issues that are close to her heart such as climate change, stronger rights for artists in regards to their compositions, and she is a big proponent that fans should buy their music directly from the artist.
