Description
For over 50 years, YES has been pushing the boundaries of progressive rock. With epic compositions, virtuoso instrumentation and a distinctive visual aesthetic, the British band has made music history. With classics such as ‘Fragile’ and ‘Close to the Edge’, YES defined the soundscape of modern rock and laid the foundation for one of the most influential genres of the 20th century. ‘Fly From Here – Return Trip’ documents an artistic re-evaluation of this extensive catalogue and continues the story of an iconic composition.
The original album, Fly From Here, was produced in 2010–2011 by Trevor Horn, a legendary figure in YES history. The new version, Return Trip (2018), brings together the classic Drama era line-up and rewrites the six-part suite – this time with Trevor Horn’s vocals replacing those of the original performer. The result is an intimate portrait of YES, presenting the instrumental contributions of Steve Howe (guitar) and Geoff Downes (keyboards) with new clarity and, above all, highlighting the unique bass richness of Chris Squire, a pillar of the band since its inception. It is a recalibration in which every note has its justification – and every musical consideration becomes audible.
The Blu-ray Audio Edition from 2025 gives this album a technical dimension that does justice to its epic scope. Richard Whittaker has created a new Atmos mix that transforms the complex sound architecture of Fly From Here – Return Trip into spatial depth. The symphonic layers, the branching rhythms, the melodic twists and turns – all of this unfolds in immersive surround sound, not as mere auditory impressions, but as a physical experience. The classic stereo mix remains present, as does the 5.1 surround version for existing home cinema setups. An additional feature: instrumental mixes in all formats allow you to explore the musical foundations in their pure form.
This release is more than just an album reissue – it is a historical document that shows how a band that has been making music history for decades is consolidating its own past, reinterpreting it and opening it up to future generations. For fans of YES, for lovers of transparent progressive rock sound design and for audiophile enthusiasts looking for immersive experiences.
