“Queen Budapest” celebrates the 40th anniversary of the first stadium rock concert by a Western band behind the Iron Curtain – and, at the same time, Queen’s last live performance captured on film. The concert on July 27, 1986, at Budapest’s Népstadion was a historic milestone: Queen became the first Western rock band to perform behind the Iron Curtain, at a time of profound cultural and political change. In addition to the 80,000 sold-out tickets, an estimated 45,000 more people watched the concert from outside – some fans had even traveled from Russia and Poland.

The film was carefully restored in 4K by Sir Peter Jackson’s post-production company, Park Road Post Production, in New Zealand, using the original 35-mm film footage captured by a total of 17 cameras. At the same time, a newly mixed audio track was created from the original multi-track recordings – in Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD 7.1, DTS-HD MA 5.1, and PCM Stereo. The immersive Dolby Atmos mix transforms the concert’s live energy into a completely new audio experience, making Queen sound in your living room just as they once did at the sold-out Népstadion.

“Queen Budapest” showcases the band at the height of their live performance skills, with Freddie Mercury at his best and a setlist spanning their entire songbook: from “One Vision” and “A Kind of Magic” to “Under Pressure” and “Who Wants to Live Forever,” all the way to “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Hammer to Fall,” and “We Are the Champions.” The film was directed by János Zsombolyai.
