Islands from 1971 was the only studio album by the King Crimson line-up of Robert Fripp, Peter Sinfield, Mel Collins, Boz Burrell and Ian Wallace and also marked the end of Sinfield’s involvement in the band’s history. Between calm, folky passages like “Formentera Lady” and rugged, jazzy-metallic outbursts like “Sailor’s Tale”, the album unfolds a panorama of the most diverse moods, which is still considered one of the most complex works in the band’s history.

For this new edition, Steven Wilson has once again taken on the material and created an expansive Dolby Atmos mix that makes the orchestral and improvised elements of the album tangible in a new, immersive depth. In the course of this work, new stereo and 5.1 mixes were created at the same time. The Blu-ray is complemented by the “Elemental Mixes” by band manager David Singleton, who has developed an independent reinterpretation of the songs from previously unreleased session material and alternative takes, as well as the 30th Anniversary Remaster, the complete recording sessions from 1971 and the live recording “Live at Summit Studios” from March 1972 in quadrophony.

The enclosed CD contains Wilson’s new stereo album mix as well as a selection of the Elemental Mixes. Presented in true-to-the-original mini-vinyl format, the edition includes a booklet with photographs and liner notes by King Crimson biographer Sid Smith.
