Description
With “Indigo”, ASIA make an impressive return after more than four decades – a studio album that combines past, present and future with remarkable unity. The current line-up of Geoffrey Downes (keyboards), Virgil Donati (drums), John Mitchell (guitar) and Harry Whitley (bass, vocals) confidently enters a new era while preserving the legacy that has made ASIA one of the most formative supergroups of its time. The recordings were made in 2025 under the production of Downes and the band; mixing and mastering were in the hands of John Mitchell.
“Indigo” carries a deep emotional connection to the band’s history: two of the late John Wetton’s last compositions – “Tattoo Indigo (Parts 2 & 3)” and “Chesapeake Bay” – find their worthy place on the album. Harry Whitley’s vocal performance reinforces this emotional connection: his timbre and phrasing are impressively reminiscent of the band’s original voice. As a guest musician, Steve Howe (Yes) contributes an acoustic guitar passage to “Chesapeake Bay”; Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) delivers a powerful performance on the bonus track “Tattoo Indigo (Part 3)”.
In addition to the CD, the digipak also contains a Blu-ray with the complete album in Dolby Atmos – a spatial sound level that unfolds the characteristic sound of ASIA with its polyphonic melodies and densely layered arrangements into an explicit listening experience. The mixing in Dolby Atmos was carried out by John Mitchell.
