Seven-time award winner and soprano saxophonist Jane Ira Bloom always had the right feeling when it came to ballads. That’s why she’s finally published “Sixteen Sunsets,” a beautiful new recording with expressive interpretations of the American Songbook and five captivating slow tempo compositions. The fourteen songs on “Sixteen Sunsets” include, among others, nine American Songbook classics. In addition are five original songs from Bloom’s ballade repertoire, like “What She Wanted,” “Ice Dancing” (for Torvil & Dean), “Gershwin’s Skyline,” “Too Many Reasons,” and “Bird Experiencing Light.” Legendary photographer Jay Maisel contributed his unbelievable image “Maine Forest at Dawn” as the cover of the album. After he listened to the CD, he sought this photo out of his archives. The cooperation of the two artists is amazing.
